Insect Trap Counts, August 22, 2012

Bollworm trap catches were up sharply this week all across the state to levels higher than seen at any time this year. Tobacco budworm catches were also higher this week, particularly in the northern Delta region. While many crops are no longer vulnerable to feeding by these pests, late maturing cotton and soybeans could be very susceptible because the number of suitable hosts is limited, causing the moths to aggregate in those few late maturing fields available.
