Bollworms Sprays Increasing in Soybeans: 7/15/2011

Last week we started getting calls about flushing bollworm moths in soybean fields and a few fields were at or above threshold on larvae.  This week was the turning point. As of today (7/15/11) we have started treating many fields.  Most all the early planted soybeans are late R5 and a few even R6, these are not at high risk.  However, we have substantial acres that are still between R1 and R4.  These are at the greatest risk for infestation and should be monitored closely.  Since we just really started making applications this week it is hard to tell how control is going so far.  By this time next week I will have had heard from many consultants on how pyrethroids are doing this year.  The two early reports I have gotten were very good control 2 days after treatment.  I will give a control report next week.

Angus, I’m looking at Intrepid against CEW/TBW in soybean this year, but didn’t have it last year. I know it’s great for loopers and would expect the same for CEW/TBW. Is this correct?
